Attaching Text To A Path

By default, when you type text into a Fireworks document, it is aligned to a straight horizontal line. However, you can get some nice looking effects by making the text follow an irregular line.

There are two steps to doing something like this: firstly you need to create the text, and then you need to create the path for the text to follow. Let's type out some text like this:

Basically, what you ned to do is type out some text and then draw a path. You can draw a path using the pen tool, and in fact, that's how most people do it. The select both text and path and click Text > Attach To Path.

You have some flexibility in that you can change the following:

  • How far along the path the text appears - change the Text offset value in the Property Inspector
  • Direction - you can reverse the text direction by clicking Text > Reverse Direction
  • Detach the text from the path - click Text > Detach from Path
